2010 SEASON

 

La bohème

San Diego Opera's 2004 production of La traviataAnja Harteros, our brilliant Violetta from La traviata in 2004, stars as Mimì, with elegant Polish tenor, Piotr Beczala, as Rodolfo.

Nabucco

(Last heard here in 1981.) Verdi’s powerful biblical epic stars your favorite Italian bass, Ferruccio Furlanetto, as Zaccaria. Joining him are Metropolitan Opera stars Zeljko Lucic and Sylvie Valayre.

Romeo and Juliet

Introduces America’s finest new lyric tenor, Stephen Costello, and his real-life wife, gorgeous soprano Ailyn Pérez, as the star-crossed lovers.

La traviata

Welcomes back Elizabeth Futral as Violetta, and introduces another new tenor, Marius Brenciu, as Alfredo.

Manon Lescaut

(Last heard here in 1979.) The extraordinary Patricia Racette sings her first Manon with Vienna State Opera star Aleksandrs Antonenko as Des Grieux, and the Metropolitan Opera’s Dwayne Croft as Lescaut.


 



2011 SEASON

 

Turandot

The stunning David Hockney production returns with exciting new soprano Lise Lindstrom as the ice-cold princess, and Fabio Armiliato as her suitor.

Moby-Dick

The world première of a new opera by Jake Heggie, composer of Dead Man Walking, based on the iconic novel by Herman Melville.

Der Rosenkavalier

(Last heard here in 1992.) A spectacular opera with an extraordinary cast: Ferruccio Furlanetto, Anja Harteros and our Carmen of 2006, Marina Domashenko, all sing their roles for the first time anywhere.

Faust

Selling his soul to the devil is tenor Stephen Costello, with Ailyn Pérez as the woman he desires. But Greer Grimsley’s Mephistopheles wants to be paid.

Carmen

Sizzling new mezzo-soprano Nino Surguladze from Tblisi, Georgia, and Australian tenor Julian Gavin, burn up the stage in Bizet’s passionate opera.
