SPECIAL 2012 TV EVENT:
Prelude to a Premiere:  A Conversation with
Moby-Dick Composer Jake Heggie

It isn’t often that we get to encounter, much less have a conversation with, a living composer of opera; but that’s exactly what will happen when San Diego Opera and UCSD-TV co-host a “Conversation with Jake Heggie, Composer of Moby-Dick”. Ian Campbell, General Director of San Diego Opera, will host the evening, discussing with the composer the Melville novel, the source of inspiration for his 2010 opera, and what went into the composition of this stunning theatrical showpiece. Ample time will be available during the event for questions to be posed from the audience about Heggie’s artistic process, his musical language and his experiences with the co-creators involved in the Moby-Dick project. These include Gene Scheer the librettist, Leonard Foglia the stage director and the production teams of Dallas Opera and the other members of the consortium who commissioned the work, including San Diego Opera. Archival video clips from the production will be previewed, giving the audience a firsthand look at what they can look forward to when Moby-Dick opens at the Civic Theatre on February 18th. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event not to be missed!

San Diego Opera programming can be seen on UCSD-TV Channel 135 on Cox and Time Warner digital tier, AT&T U-verse Channel 99, UHF Time Warner Del Mar Channel 19 and UHF (no cable) Channel 35. For information, program schedules and more, visit http://www.ucsd.tv/opera/.
