SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Join us for one of our outstanding Education programs from San Diego Opera this season!

Our Education offerings this year include Student Night at the Opera, where your students come to see part of the final dress rehearsals of our mainstage productions; docent presentations, teaching artist visits and other special programs, besides Operapaedia and In The Classroom, both excellent resources here on our website.

NEW THIS YEAR!
Making Connections: Music and Science

We have made a strong effort in the past couple of years to provide a curriculum for teachers in order to help establish a relationship between music, opera and the sciences. Making Connections: Music and Science is a result of that effort. In this curriculum (which can be adapted for grade levels 4 through 12) classroom teachers will discover activities and lesson plans connecting music specifically to physics, biology and the physical sciences. Special emphasis is made on the anatomy of the voice, the production of sound and how we determine the difference between different voice-types. This curriculum is offered as a supplement to our study guides on the opera productions we offer through the Student Dress Rehearsal Program.

Next Steps!

We now offer follow-up visits to your classroom with teaching artists to enhance your students’ learning about opera. Let’s say your students go to Student Night at the Opera and see Aida. Within a few days after the experience, one of our specially trained professional teaching artists will come to your classroom and help the students communicate what they saw, what they heard, what they learned and what they experienced when they came to the opera. We will offer this program, called NEXT STEPS, as a follow-up to all our school programs.

As you can see, we have something in opera education for just about everyone. Call us at (619) 232-7636 and reserve your favorite program now. At San Diego Opera, we make music worth seeing!
