San Diego Opera debut. Mexican Mezzo-soprano Cecilia Duarte made her solo role debut as Renata with Houston Grand Opera in the world premiere of Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, a role she reprised in Paris at the Théâtre du Châtelet. She has been a member of Houston Grand Opera’s touring company Opera to Go! since 2007, for which she recently created the role of Gracie in 40th world premiere, A Way Home by Ethan Greene and Irene Keliher, role that she performed again in a full production at Southwest Opera in Albuquerque, NM. Other credits include Jezhibaba in Rusalka, Berta in The Barber of Seville, Third Lady in The Magic Flute and Stefano in Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet. Her musical career began in Mexico where she performed in numerous musical theater productions, creating roles in numerous world premieres both written and directed by composer Alberto Espino.
