Mark S. Doss

Canadian-American bass-baritone Mark S. Doss made his Company debut in 1992 in the bass roles of Collatinus in The Rape of Lucretia and appeared later that season as Zuniga in Carmen, returned as Nourabad in The Pearl Fishers, the Water Sprite in Rusalka and in 1998 as Friar Lawrence in Romeo and Juliet. Recent as well as upcoming notable performances in his present bass-baritone repertoire include Amonasro at the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera, Covent Garden and Milan’s La Scala; Escamillo in Carmen at La Scala, the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Arena di Verona; Jochanaan in Salome at La Scala, the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence, Madrid’s Teatro Real and Bologna’s Teatro Comunale; Méphistophélès in Faust with Oper Frankfurt and the Santa Fe Opera, Balstrode in Peter Grimes with Teatro Regio di Torino, Thoas in Iphigénie en Tauride with the Canadian Opera Company and the San Francisco Opera; the title role in Mefistofele with Oper Frankfurt, Jaroslav Prus in The Makropulos Case and Argante in Rinaldo both at La Scala; the title role in The Flying Dutchman with Teatro Regio di Torino, and the Four Villains in The Tales of Hoffmann with Opera Tokyo.
