San Diego Opera debut. American Vanessa Alonzo made her Houston Grand Opera debut as Lupita in the concert premiere of Cruzar la Cara de la Luna at the Wortham Theater Center, a role she reprised in Paris at the Theatre du Chatelet. She began her training with the late Alfonso Guerra at Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts and in 1999 was named “Best in the US” in Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Vocal Competition. Her notable credits include tours to Ireland, Mexico, Norway and Vietnam. In 2002, Alonzo performed for the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. Television credits include El Show de Cristina on Univision as a participant in the Festival de Rancheras.
