British fashion designer Zandra Rhodes made her San Diego Opera debut designing costumes for The Magic Flute in 2001 and returned to design sets and costumes for The Pearl Fishers in 2004 which was then seen in San Francisco and New York. She attended Medway College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. An international fashion and textile designer, Rhodes founded the Fashion and Textile Museum in London which is now part of Newham College of Further Education and it has been awarded the status of: National Skills Academy for Fashion, Textiles, and Jewelry. Rhodes was Royal Designer for Industry in the UK (conferred by Prince Phillip) and was made a Commander of the British Empire by the Queen in 1997 in recognition of her contribution to fashion and textiles. She designed for the late Princess Diana and continues to design for the rich and famous around the world. Zandra Rhodes has had many academic and professional honors bestowed upon her including six doctorates and, in May 2010, was installed as Chancellor of the University of the Creative Arts (UCA) in the Banqueting House, Whitehall UK.
