San Diego, CA – San Diego Opera is pleased to announce a partnership with XLNC1 resulting in a new program called “San Diego Opera Matters.” Hosted by San Diego Opera’s Geisel Director of Education, Dr. Nicolas Reveles, the 17-week, hour-long program premieres on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 9 AM before the Metropolitan Opera broadcast of Carmen on XLNC1 (104.9 FM). “San Diego Opera Matters” will cover the San Diego Opera season focusing on the opera’s history, the music and the singers appearing during the 2010 season with interviews, musical excerpts and special surprises.
XLNC1 will also be the home of San Diego Opera’s 2010 Season radio broadcasts. These encore presentations will air a week after each opera closes on Sunday at 7 PM, giving audience members a chance to relive the magic and giving the community the chance to hear why San Diego Opera is ranked as one of the top Opera Companies in the United States.
When asked about his radio program Dr. Reveles commented “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to begin broadcasting an opera radio show on XLNC1. I’ll be creating programs that highlight our season at San Diego Opera, and I’m going to make them fun to listen to, informative, and full of unexpected twists and turns. As with all of the outreach I do, I’m going to take listeners beyond the ‘now let’s listen to this aria’ approach and dig into opera a bit more to help them appreciate it for the rich art form that it really is.”
“San Diego Opera Matters” runs from January 16, 2010 – May 8, 2010 at 9 AM. It can be heard at 104.9 FM or online at www.xlnc1.org.
