VOLUNTEER AT SAN DIEGO OPERA

Opera Crew

Are you an opera lover? Then we’d love you to join our volunteer team of devoted individuals and help opera staff with projects, events, backstage tours and more! As much as our Stage Crew is a critical part of each opera production, our Opera Crew plays an essential role in supporting San Diego Opera.

Take a look at the Opera Crew Brochure for more details about each of our four opera crews, the time commitment for each assignment and what we’ll be asking you to do. Next , download and print off the Volunteer Profile Form, mail or email it to the Opera and we’ll be in touch.

Becoming an Opera Crew Volunteer is a great way to meet like-minded new friends and, at the same time, you’ll be giving back to an important artistic San Diego institution.

SUPERNUMERARY

We are now expanding the talent pool of supernumeraries for our 2013 International Season. Whether an expert or a novice, all are welcome! Each production has a limited number of supernumerary roles (or extras). These people perform as guards, sailors, townsfolk, etc. according to the needs of the production. It’s not always a glamorous job, but you could be onstage and backstage soaking up all of the excitement. We are looking for enthusiastic and dependable people of all ages and types.

The 2013 season promises comedy, adventure, and lots of EXCITEMENT. As a member of our silent but critically important supernumerary cast, you’ll get tickets to dress rehearsals, meet new people, and have lots of fun!

To be considered and added to our active list, call the Super hotline (619) 533-7073 and leave a clear message with your name, address, email address, and phone number (and age if you are under 18) or email our Super Captain at Bob.Borntrager@sdopera.com. Let us know if you have any special acrobatic or climbing skills. Please be patient, we will mail you an info packet in the late fall.

LIGHT WALKER

If you would like to be involved in a production, but don’t want to perform as a super, we have opportunities for people to volunteer to help our Lighting Designers by “light walking.” If you have daytime availability, we’d love to hear from you. We need “stand ins” onstage for the singers as the Director, Designer, and staff write the actual lighting cues. If you are interested in volunteering as a light walker, call our Super hotline (619) 533-7073 and leave a clear message with your name, address, email address, and phone number or email our Super Captain at Bob.Borntrager@sdopera.com.
