Join hosts Dr. Nicolas Reveles, the Geisel Director of Education and Outreach for San Diego Opera, and Dr. Ann Bowles, Senior Research Biologist at the Hubbs-Sea World Institute, for a special, one-time viewing of the IMAX film WHALES, as we make connections between the world of marine science and our upcoming production of Moby-Dick. Meet blue, orca, and sperm whales and follow humpbacks as they travel thousands of miles from the krill blooms off the frigid coast of Alaska to give birth in the warm waters of Hawaii in the IMAX film WHALES. Featuring spectacular underwater footage of mothers, calves, and escorts, WHALES reveals many little-known aspects of these elusive creatures and celebrates the music, play, and incredible strength of Earth’s largest inhabitants. What’s remarkable is how much Herman Melville, author of the 1851 novel “Moby-Dick”, knew about these wonderful creatures from his own experience on the high seas, a fact that will be discussed by Drs. Reveles and Bowles at the event.
