In-school Residency Program
Students take the stage in this multi-faceted arts program, producing their own
opera under the guidance of three opera professionals. The operas are especially
adapted for children and allow the students to work in all aspects of production
-- from sets and costumes to stage management and lighting. And, of course the
students star in the productions, acting, dancing and
singing! Over the course of the six-week program, students are given individual
confidence-building responsibilities and learn the value of teamwork. As they
develop their abilities and talents backstage or onstage, they not only learn
about opera, they learn about themselves. Ultimately, they share their
accomplishments through wonderful performances for their parents and fellow
students. The result is truly opera FOR kids...BY kids! Thanks to generous
donations from our Sponsors, this program is made available at minimal cost to
the schools involved.
RIP VAN WINKLE
by J. Sherwood Montgomery and Jeffrey Rockwell
Take yourself back to Washington Irving's pre-revolutionary Colonial America and
join Henry Hudson as he tells the story of sleepyhead Rip Van Winkle and his
many adventures. Rip's escapades cause him to abandon his family and seek out
lost treasure in New York's Hudson River Valley. Lured by his desire for
adventure, Rip loses twenty years of his life in a deep sleep and finally
returns during the presidency of George Washington. Waking to discover the life
he remembered has vanished, he learns that "the grass is not always greener on
the other side of the hill." Based on the Washington Irving short story, this
production crosses the curriculum, encouraging students to learn about America
and its history.

eat, Hansel and Gretel unwittingly allow themselves to be bamboozled and
captured by an evil witch who turns children into gingerbread cookies! Helped
along in their adventure by the angels and the Sandman, they teach the witch a
lesson she'll never forget, and reunite the gingerbread children with their
